I know what you mean.
I searched all over for a new car about a year ago and was about to give up. I then came across the Honda fit, which I think is an excellent buy. I was set on getting one but then decided that I was going to stick with the car I got (realized that the warrenty i paid for was good for another year!). If I had to buy a car I would go with the fit, but won't have the need for quite a while.

A rude reminder...buying a car
by Gregor inwe have been considering a new auto.
we have one with 125,000 mi and one with 145,000. they are both doing fine but i must admit i have been tempted by the deep discounts and rebates on new models.
so i take my car to the dealer.

Welcome to the board!
You will be able to learn alot from all of the differant folks on this board. Some have faded sucessfully, some haven't. Some have been Df'd, some has squeaked past judicial comittees. There is no set rule on how things go. Some peoples loved ones almost recognize that it isn't the truth instantly, others it takes years or never happens.
Take comfort in knowing that there are many who have gone through the same stuff. -

Susan,
As others have said, as a person follows the forum guidelines they are welcome here. People shouldn't be telling others to "go home".
There have been members of this board that share their experince of being ex-mormon, drawing similarities from the JW experience. There are other mormons who come on here and say this is not the case. I for one think that this board is it's most powerful when there is open discussion.
Many of us on this forum are used to open examination and the questioning of "self proclaimed authorities". The nature of this forum will make discussions and debates about groups like the LDS much more intense than you may find elsewhere. So I would hope that you understand that choosing to be in a forum like this and opening up about your religious beliefs wil inevitably bring upon some feisty debates. But nobody should be telling you to 'go home' just because they disagree. -

What keeps most members in the ''spiritual netting'' of the WTS?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inbirds or any other animal can be caught with a net.
they don't have the wisdom to see what's coming.. what does the wts use that is so powerful that most members can't seem to escape?
what makes them so powerful that they can have so much effect on everyone of us?.

Saw this movie with some friends yesterday. One of the main reasons we chose this movie was because the one guy really loved the book and wanted to see how it was adapted.
His reaction was quite negative, thought that they ruined the whole story and that it didn't even resemble the book.
I thought the first half was well done but it didn't hold up the enitre way through. It almost seemed unconventional at the begninning, but eventually took the form of every other Will Smith movie you have ever seen. -

Watchtower art is just so damn bad. One of the reasons why I never really felt good about the Revelation book was because the pictures where so half assed.

Is the "My Book of Bible Stories" appropriate reading for Little Ones?
by Princess Daisy Boo inmy little boy, aged 4 1/2 loves his bedtime stories, and also loves "jesus stories" as he calls them... .
now, i have never gotten around to going to a book store and actually buying a childrens bible story book from the shops (yes...i still have a bit of a mental block and some deep seated issues about any religious literature).
my mom gave my kids a copy of the bible story book, as well as listening to the great teacher (the new soft cover book - think it is called that?

As others have said, that book is filled with Watchtower nuances that are inteneded to push the child towards typicial JW thinking.
Tons of great childrens books out there, don't waste your time on that one! -

google books is going to be one of the most powerful tools the internet has evern spawned, as long as it keeps going. Hopefully more publishers will find ways to work with google on this.
Being able to do entire searches of books is just amazing.

Here's the reason for the 3% jump in publishers for the past year
by sir82 init is immigration that explains the vast majority of the increase.. who is it that immigrates?
the poorest of the poor, the desperate ones that would be dead from starvation or execution by gangs/guerillas within 5 years anyway.
these were not the ones being converted in their home countries - when you have to work 14-18 hours a day, 7 days a week just to feed your family, there is no time to "study", attend meetings, go out in field servce, etc.. so, they go to their new country.

I'm guess this topic is all within the context of growth in the US?
When I still attended meetings it was easy to notice that there was a slow but steady stream of direction coming from the org that US publishers could "reach out" by learning a new language. In the context of their growth in the United States there is no question that they wish to capatilize on that section of the population. It's just a guess but i'm sure the same thing is also being pushed in other countries with large populations of immigrants (i.e Great Britian, France).
Of course one thing to remember is that the Watchtower primarily would want to go after Christian immigrants. People who already have affiliation with a christian denomination. They don't do so well in converting masses of people from religions that don't share basic christian ideals and concepts (especially Islam).
